Marcus Durant is a talented Graphic Designer, Director, and all-around artist living and working in NYC. He thrives in a world of music, driven by passion and ambition to think differently and push boundaries.
Just a Second was filmed in the fall of 2017, but its foundation came from a late-night text conversation Marcus and I had about life. As we talked, I realized, this could be an incredible voiceover for a documentary. So, I started curating my responses, hoping to shape a loose script for him—without him even knowing—until months later.
Fast forward to two days of filming in NYC, capturing everything from where he grew up in Jersey to his workplace and weekly basketball games. Once we wrapped, we set up in his apartment and recorded the voiceover—reading it exactly as it was written in our texts months earlier.
It’s not my job to define exactly what that conversation was or what it means. My goal was to merge the two—a visual dialogue driven by real meaning, scripted by the artist himself.
