Process
The Planet Mars is a music video created in relation to The Planet Mars record produced by WillKes. The music video was represented as an extension of the record by capturing the essence of the title to influence the main plot and overall visuals. The distinct narration from a War of the World radio recording pushed the heavy grain and 90s aesthetic — a time when everything was a bit more simple and not as ‘overthought’.
The overall approach to this project was exactly that — how efficient can we be with this? With only a 4 person crew, we worked throughout the night to capture as much footage as we could. The magic then continued throughout the next month where everything was compiled and streamed together to match the vision of Georgia Snow Nicholas’ script. Through a couple of revisions and a few polish rounds The Planet Mars had been completed and was pulblished online. This showcase was not met without a personalized campaign that directly connected to the video’s visuals and tone. This Marketing campaign spanned two weeks and added to the overall vision — bring people together to Finish Good Ideas.
“To date, nearly 6,000 UFO sightings have been recorded in North America.”

The Social Build
Music is a social event, therefore producing social marketing was very important to bring awareness to both the release of the song on streaming platforms and the music video launch date. We worked to build hype and traction over the course of two weeks, rolling out a campaign that attached the vocals and melodies from the song to that of the visuals of the branding and captured content. The approach based on efficiency — tease the characters and create direct, no fluff messaging. The result was both comical and tonal, which provided suspense and intrigue.
AR Hat Filter
The Dirty Desert Pizza Boy hat was an added detail that could go unnoticed. However we felt it had its own storyline. In light of that we created a AR Hat Filter that could worn by others wanting to be just like the Pizza Boy in The Planet Mars. This has kept The Pizza Boy narrative in the forefront incase a possible prequel were to arise. We Wanted to keep the integraty of the ‘actual’ hat as much as possible. To do so we 3D scanned the exact hat worn in the film. Once scanned we worked some AR magic in Spark - uploaded to instagram - and then boom, before you knew it we had a AR filter custom fit for any head.
